The gentleman of 2015 is a suave individual indeed. He wears a mix of modern and vintage attire, blurring lines between all kinds of fashion boundaries. Whilst the fashion landscape has been notoriously difficult for men of all ages to navigate, the New Year brings another opportunity for us to try out new looks and styles to see what works for us.

Don’t shy away from this transition, we’re here to guide you into the New Year in style. From beard oils to pocket watches, make way for the refined version of you in 2015.

Hair

Men have become much more experimental with their hair in recent years and we’ll see even more adventurous styles emerging in 2015. From the ruffled quiff to the dreaded top knot, some of us may wish to stick to an average slicked back look, but that’s just not going to cut it.

Texture on top will be a key trend for 2015, as we see men adopt short sides with styled longer hair on top. Banish the beanies as branded knits that cover your locks become outdated and unnecessary under the generous British spring sun.

Yet it’s not just the hair on your head you’ve got to think about. Facial hair is no longer exclusive between a few of us that can’t let go of Movember, with plenty of styles and potions at our disposal for a fine-tuned finished look. Winter may have allowed your unruly beard to blend in, but 2015 will be the year of quirky, crafted facial hair. You’ll need to spend more time when grooming yourself, as the rough and ready look is so 2014.

Smart > Casual

We’ve always appreciated the sharp look of a fine tailored suit over a pair of heavy denim jeans, but this year dressing smart will become even more expected as the tide of fashion shifts. Dolce & Gabbana famously championed the satin suit on their recent runway shows, with Dries Van Noten also relishing this trend, showcasing suave patterned trench coats.

Mixing old and new

Whilst you wouldn’t expect to see the modern man in futuristic, light-up attire, you also wouldn’t expect to see him riding around on a penny-farthing, with a top hat and tails either. The man of 2015 will be an eclectic mix of both modern and vintage trends.

We may be queueing round the block for a fresh pair of kicks, but at the same time we’ll be checking the time on a stunning vintage watch. Take the recent example of fashion-forward gents who queued for 48 hours outside a Manchester street wear shop for a pair of rare adidas trainers.

This is because this year is about both style and substance. As we turn away from disposable fashion, we look towards mid-level luxury brands and above for timeless attire, which displays durability as well as elegance.

The reason vintage fashion is preserved so well is all down to the amazing craftsmanship behind each piece. The modern gentleman demands quality, and while he isn’t afraid to pay for the best clothing and jewellery, he also knows how to spot a bargain when he sees one.

Preppy

Embody a sense of school boy nostalgia with the preppy trend. Smart fitted blazers and flashes of colour bring an overriding feeling of youth to your wardrobe. We loved the gorgeous blazers displayed in Milan by Gucci and think something like them would work perfectly alongside the playful colours of a Daniel Wellington watch.

As we’ve discussed in recent weeks, the modern gentleman has learnt how to accessorise. While there’s always been a strong demand for luxury timepieces, stylish men are increasingly coming around to the idea of finishing their overall look with a vintage bracelet or fetching necklace.

Don’t be afraid to push the boundaries in 2015. You certainly won’t be alone in doing so.
